Eastside Remedios Soaps and Salves: The Wisdom of Matriarchy

Eastside Remedios is all about culture, locale, and ancestral wisdom. Aine, the founder, is a fifth-generation maker of folk remedies. Her inspiration hails from the Camino Real in eastern Texas and from Northern New Mexico, where she currently resides. Ninety-nine percent of the raw materials utilized in her formulas are personally grown and picked; many are foraged along the Pecos River. Some items are organic (uncertified); the rest are pesticide-free. Products are packaged in glass or tin.

Colorful loaves of handcrafted soaps with unique ingredients are delivered in reused paper grocery bags and sold by the slice. Soap & Supply builds on the zero-waste momentum by cutting slices to order and wrapping them in reused brown packing paper. Since no slice is too small for purchase, every flavor can be sampled for a very modest investment. Varieties change seasonally.

The honey-based types are made from Aine’s own hives. There are no assembly line shortcuts here and local ingredients rule. Different oil combinations are used as the base for each type of soap, some vegan and some with animal fat, including Aine’s grandmother’s special recipe: olive oil, castor oil, and lard or tallow.

Soap & Supply is proud to offer soaps and salves from this small-batch maker who practices sustainability in every aspect of production.

Yucca Rosemary Shampoo Bar: Yucca root has been used historically by indigenous people of the Americas as a hair wash to promote strong, healthy hair. Local dried yucca root is ground up and added to handcrafted rosemary hydrosol for this special bar recommended for normal to oily hair. As the hair and scalp transition from commercial hair products to shampoo bars, the scalp regains its capacity to balance oil production, eliminating the need for synthetic emollients.

Shave Soap: A great-smelling, moisturizing recipe that delivers the right glide for a close shave, restoring the natural moisture levels in your skin and reducing any irritation.

Carrot Tumeric Complexion Bar (Vegan - Unscented): A soap gentle enough for any skin type, with antioxidant and antiseptic properties. Carrot helps to cleanse pores and improve the texture and color of the skin. Carrot also helps rejuvenate mature, sun-exposed skin. Turmeric reduces inflammation and repairs surface damage. The combination creates an overall refining and calming effect. No palm oil.

Ingredients: avocado oil, babassu oil, castor oil, olive oil, rice bran oil, turmeric, carrots from ESR’s garden

SALVES

Jemez Wild Rose Petal Salve: A nourishing balm recommended for eczema, psoriasis, stretch marks, wrinkles, sun spots, age spots, and as a general all-purpose salve. Foraged wild rose hips from the mountains of Northern New Mexico are infused with rose petals and lavender from ESR’s garden. Beeswax from the ESR apiary and handcrafted rosehip oil complete the infusion. This salve is light in consistency and mildly fragrant.

Ingredients: NM wild rose hips, lavender and rose petals, sweet almond oil, Shea butter, rosehip oil, NM grown lavender, NM beeswax

Nana’s Face Balm: A thick emollient for deep moisture and repair. “It's so great we named it after our grandmother whose beautiful skin was proof that years of using this balm worked better than anything found in a store”. The tallow absorbs quickly, leaving skin smooth and supple; it contains an abundance of naturally-occurring fat soluble vitamins (A,D,K and E), Omega 3 fatty acids, and anti-inflammatory acid to promote healthy skin. Rosehip oil is high in vitamin E, vitamin A, and essential fatty acids which support an increase in collagen and elastin levels and assist with cell regeneration. Rosehip oil is superb at treating wrinkles, stretch marks, and eczema.

Ingredients: NM wild rosehip-infused jojoba oil, NM beeswax, Polk’s Folly tallow, chamomile, frankincense, NM lavender.

Mending Salve: Plants are great healers. Mending Salve is natural "neosporin." Great for cuts, scratches, scrapes, dry fissures in fingers and hands, cracked heels, and everything in between.

Ingredients: white oak, alligator juniper, arnica, plantain, calendula, turpentine bush, golden bush, white pine, Engelmann spruce, cedar, prairie sage, mugwort and comfrey infused in olive oil pomace, beeswax from our NM apiary.
